At first glance it looks just like Russell Brand is posing for a photo with his pop star wife.

But this isn't Katy Perry, but a fan who bares more than a passing resemblance to the famous Mrs Brand.

With her long dark hair, red lipstick and quirky style looking a lot like Katy, Russell was quick to seize the opportunity and stopped to give his young female fan a hug.

Kobie Thatcher, 20, was definitely not disappointed by the star's arrival at Sydney Airport.

Clutching a copy of Russell's latest book, Booky Wook 2, she smiled happily as she had her photo taken with Russell, who is in Australia for the premiere of his new movie, Arthur.

He was famous for his backcombed bird's nest hair, heavy kohl eye make-up and rockstar clothing and jewellery - but Russell Brand showed just how far he's watered down his image as he tries to further his film career.

The 35-year-old star has swapped edgy for anodyne as stand-up takes a backseat for the silver screen - and the Camden style ditched for sleek Stateside grooming.

The hair is now smooth, glossy and conditioned and his beard, never mind any designer stubble, is long gone.

His skin looks suspiciously like he's had a few facials and there's no trace of eyeliner.

His old skintight black drainpipe jeans have been relegated to the back of the wardrobe and winklepicker shoes kicked under the bed.

Even his rockstar jackets have been jacked in for nice smart business-style suits for television appearances, including the grey one he wore last week for U.S. chat show Live With Regis And Kelly.

And Russell currently has two films topping the U.S. box office charts. He is one of the stars of animated movie Hop, at Number One, and Arthur us currently at Number Two.
