John Galliano’s Paris Show Scaled Down To A Presentation

The runway show for John Galliano’s eponymous label scheduled this Saturday has been canceled, but the line he designed for Dior will come down the catwalk on Friday as scheduled. An unnamed source told Agence France Presse that executives at Dior had decided to scale back the John Galliano show, which are generally regarded to be some of the most outlandish runway shows at Paris Fashion Week, in favor of a private presentation for buyers and members of the press. The move to downsize the show will no doubt be very costly — but money is the least of the worries on hand for executives at LVMH, the luxury conglomerate that owns Dior and a bevy of other fashion labels. After firing Galliano yesterday, Dior will have to hire a replacement and decide what should be done with Galliano’s eponymous label, which it also owns.

John Galliano Releases Public Statement:Heads To Rehab

“Since the events of last Thursday evening I have not been able to make any public comment on what took place based upon advice from my French lawyer. However, given the continuing delays at the French Prosecutor’s Office I should make my position clear.“I completely deny the claims made against me and have fully co-operated with the police investigation.

“A number of independent witnesses have given evidence and have told the police that I was subjected to verbal harassment and an unprovoked assault when an individual tried to hit me with a chair having taken violent exception to my look and my clothing. For these reasons I have commenced proceedings for defamation and the threats made against me.

“However, I fully accept that the accusations made against me have greatly shocked and upset people.“I must take responsibility for the circumstances in which I found myself and for allowing myself to be seen to be behaving in the worst possible light.“I only have myself to blame and I know that I must face up to my own failures and that I must work hard to gain people’s understanding and compassion. To start this process I am seeking help and all I can hope for in time is to address the personal failure which led to these circumstances and try and earn people’s forgiveness.“I have fought my entire life against prejudice, intolerance and discrimination, having been subjected to it myself. In all my work my inspiration has been to unite people of every race, creed, religion and sexuality by celebrating their cultural and ethnic diversity through fashion. That remains my guiding light.“Anti-semitism and racism have no part in our society. I unreservedly apologise for my behaviour in causing any offence.”

About Galliano and Speculation Begin: Who Should Replace Galliano At Dior?

Friends of Mr. Galliano, who would speak only on condition of anonymity, say that they have finally persuaded the troubled designer to go immediately into rehab — and that the pace of fashion today, and particularly the rigorous structure of a corporate fashion house, broke the fragile, artistic creator.

Also:

While the vile statements seen coming from Mr. Galliano’s drunken lips on the Internet video deserved the nearly-universal condemnation they were receiving, there is pathos in the vision of one of the world’s most famous — and best paid — designers alone, clutching a glass in a bar. The pressure from fast fashion and from the instant Internet age to create new things constantly has worn down other famous names. Marc Jacobs, design director of Louis Vuitton, ended a wild streak in rehab. Calvin Klein famously rambled across a sports pitch and admitted to substance abuse. And the late Yves Saint Laurent spent a lifetime fighting his demons...Above all, the suicide of Alexander McQueen, a year almost to the day before Mr. Galliano’s public disgrace, is a specter that hangs over the fashion industry. The death from cardiac arrest of Mr. Galliano’s closest collaborator, Steven Robinson, in 2007 also sent out an early warning signal.

 She also shares that:

The presentation of the autumn/winter 2011/12 Dior collection, designed by Galliano, is still scheduled for this Friday at the Musée Rodin. E-mails from Dior highlighting all the new spring/summer collections, including the Galliano-designed ready-to-wear range inspired by 'South Pacific' have been sent out. Information about an exhibition of watches to launch the new Dior V111 at the Avenue Montaigne headquarters of LVMH, the luxury French fashion conglomerate, on March 7th and 8th also went out.

The spokeman model Natalie Portman wore Rodarte , not Dior....only Kidman Wore Dior...
YES, JOHN GALLIANO DID mistakes...he were drunk...but really is this the correct way to "punish him"??
HE IS AN ICON! ARE you ppl forgetting everything????? Should send for a rehabilitation or anything but removing from Dior? He is one of the best who can lead the Dior house if not Galliano??? Pop stars...rockstart rappers etc did million times worst ...even in video clipps and maximum banned them...made even more famous and what happened with Galliano and he wasnt even clear....??? i dont think this is the way to make things correct...this is a punish for US!!!!!!!!
At friday show:Dior? What s now???

Following Natalie Portman’s public condemnation of the embattled designer and rumors of emergency meetings at the iconic French brand, Dior has officially fired John Galliano, effective immediately.Women’s Wear Daily reports that Dior released a brief statement Tuesday morning announcing Galliano’s termination in light of the “odious behavior” portrayed in that “I Love Hitler” video which made the rounds on Monday. In the statement, Dior’s president and chief executive officer Sidney Toledano said, “I condemn most firmly the statements made by John Galliano which are total contradiction with the essential values that have always been defended by the House of Christian Dior.”
Paris – March 1, 2011Following the allegations of anti-Semitic statements that resulted in John Galliano being questioned by police on Thursday, February 24, Christian Dior immediately suspended its relationship with its designer, pending the outcome of the police investigation.Today, in light of the deeply offensive statements and conduct by John Galliano in a video made public yesterday, Christian Dior has commenced termination proceedings against him.Sidney Toledano, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Christian Dior Couture, said: “I unequivocally condemn the statements made by John Galliano which are in total contradiction to the longstanding core values of Christian Dior”.

John Galliano’s career at Dior hasn’t been over for 24 hours yet, but people are already speculating and making bets on who will replace him. A few names have floated to the top of the heap, but we won’t know for sure who it will be until someone has signed and dated what will undoubtedly be a very lucrative contract. Still, it’s sort of fun (but also kinda sad) to informally nominate a few people for the post. But for the people who are actually going to have to make this call, we don’t imagine this being very fun. Galliano, anti-Semite though he might be, was an immensely talented designer. Sasha Wilkins, better known to some as Liberty London Girl, told the BBC that Galliano is “the most talented designer of his generation.”

don’t know who will be picked, but there are some things we can almost guarantee: This person won’t be an American. Dior, after all, couldn’t be more French if it tried, and there’s something about American design that just doesn’t quite approximate France’s way of doing things. The replacement will also have to be capable of turning out a couple of couture collections a year. With that in mind, we think any one of the following five candidates would make a splendid addition to the stable of designers at LVMH.

John Galliano’s Racist Rant Caught On Video: ‘I Love Hitler’

The British designer - an alleged Jew hater - then tells a horrified woman: "People like you would be dead. Your mothers, your forefathers, would all be f****** gassed."

His tirade was videoed by a friend of the people he was insulting - who were French and Italian, but not Jewish.Galliano, 50, was at the same Paris bar where he allegedly launched a vicious verbal attack on two people last week - which led to him being arrested and suspended by fashion label Christian Dior. After stating he loves Hitler and making the gassing remark, a woman is heard to say, 'Oh my God' before asking slurring Galliano if he had a problem. He said: "With you. You're ugly." Asked where he was from, he said: "Your a***hole."

John Galliano was suspended from work at Dior after an overnight police interrogation." Should follow a formal declaration of the executive director of Christian Dior Sidney Toledano: at the time of the investigation into the designer will be removed from office.Meanwhile, Vogue.co.uk described the story differently: "We had a table at La Perle, and John Galliano was sitting next to us", - told the editor of an eyewitness. - He spoke with a couple at the next table, I tell them «cheers», and they insult him. The conflict began, there was a police bodyguard Galliano offered to go to the police station to sort out. He was not arrested by the police, behaved calmly and peacefully. " Galliano's lawyer told AFP, that the designer "has officially denied allegations of anti-Semitism leveled against him." We will continue to monitor this situation.

Galliano Arrested For Anti-Semitic Remarks, Alleged Assaul

Fashion house Dior on Friday suspended John Galliano after police questioned its flamboyant star designer for allegedly assaulting a couple and using anti-Semitic insults in a Paris bar.

Police briefly detained Galliano on Thursday evening in Paris' fashionable Marais district after he allegedly verbally accosted a couple in a bar. Galliano's lawyer strongly denied accusations of anti-Semitism.

"The House of Dior declares with the greatest firmness its policy of zero tolerance with regard to any anti-Semitic or racist statement or attitude," Dior boss Sidney Toledano said in a statement.
"Pending the outcome of the enquiry, Christian Dior has suspended John Galliano from all duties," said Dior, which is owned by Bernard Arnault, who also controls global luxury retailer LVMH.The altercation erupted at the La Perle cafe, popular with the gay and fashion community in the historically Jewish neighbourhood, between Galliano and a couple next to him at around 9:00 pm, a police source said.France's Europe 1 radio quoted the couple, a man and a woman, as alleging that Galliano said in English: "Dirty Jewish face, you should be dead" and "Fucking Asian bastard, I will kill you."Police detained him for questioning and he was found to have consumed several times over the legal alcohol limit for driving. The designer was released and taken home by his driver pending possible charges.German fashion magazine and website Sleek quoted witnesses as saying the altercation began when Galliano sat next to a couple at the bar who mistook him for a "bum when he tried to strike up a conversation with them."

The couple allegedly called Galliano "dirty and disgusting". The designer initially ignored them but then allegedly said to the woman: 'You?re ugly and you?re fucking bag is ugly too,' the German website reported.
The boyfriend of the woman then got up from his chair and aggressively charged to threaten the designer. Galliano's bodyguard tried to quiet the situation, as did the staff from La Perle, but there was nothing more to do," the site said.
Galliano's lawyer Stephane Zerbib told AFP the designer "formally denies the accusations of anti-Semitism made against him."Galliano "is not at all in this state of mind (and) will explain later," Zerbib said, adding that "legal action will be taken against those making such accusations.""There was an altercation, Mr Galliano was verbally attacked, but at no point did he make any such insults, and we have witness testimony that backs this up."

One of a multitude of different ways I begin a collection is to take something I do not find immediately alluring and transform it into something beautiful or challenging. Mauve has never been my favorite colour, yet my disdain for the tone forced me to create a collection mainly in mauve.
