Best Dressed of the Month - Jan'11

First, a big welcome to my new readers. And of course, I am grateful for all of you who keep coming back, too:-)

Just some background on the "Best Dressed of the Month" post. At the end of each month, I go through all the comments and select the best "liked" four outfits. We do a poll and the winner goes to our "Hall of Fame". Do check out our past winners! (on the right side of the blog)

January was the awards season, so it was impossible to choose only four. Still I was able to narrow it down to nine outfits. The nominees are:

Who: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

No surprises here - was pretty sure Aishwarya will be in a saree. Just surprised that its not ugly or OTT!! The saree is very elegant and Aish looks graceful.

Who: Katrina Kaif

Katrina wore a Manish Malhotra creation which is stupendously beautiful! It looks like she walked off the ramp into the event:-) Given that the outfit is so blingy, Katrina kept her makeup and accessories minimal. Also surprised to her "girls" since Katrina rarely does cleavage..

Who: Preity Zinta

I am incapable of making an objective judgment here, becoz of my overwhelming affection for Preity Zinta:-)

Who: Vidya Balan, Dia Mirza

Any guess as to who Vidya is wearing:-)
The outfit doesnt need such a statement necklace and her hair isnt winning her any points today.

Dia kept it simple in a black saree (not sure if its a saree or lengha) with a lace top. Her top has a very unusual design. Close ups are below.

I do love the lace-y, sexy look but the the back is a little creepy - looks like the saree is coming out of her body!!

Who: Urmila Matondkar, Esha Koppikar, Mini Mathur

Urmila - Another Manish Malhotra creation. This guy certainly has a hold on the celebs:-)

Esha - Even though this look is simple, its one of her best looks. The rest of the times, she come across as trying too hard.

Mini - Love this woman's style. She is always looks effortlessly chic!

Who: Kajol, Kalki Koechlin

In case of any emergency, we all can use Kajol's oufit to parachute to safety!

Kalki has a quirky style but this is not quirky - this is what every starlet on a cheap budget wears! Dont loose ur individualism, Kalki - Fire the person who suggested this to you!

Looks of the day

Who: Aishwarya Rai
Where: Filmfare party

If you took the saree that Katrina wore for the Apsara awards, 2011 and dyed it blue, this is what you will get. Aishwarya in a net/velvet Manish Malhotra(who else?) saree. Similar hairstyle as Katrina and similar kundan earrings. Not only are we sharing designers but also hairstylists and jewelers. What love!!

I like the dress on her, she looks good. Love her eye makeup but not her lip-color.

Who: Urmila Matondkar, Surily Goel

There is no way to sugarcoat this so I am just going to say this - I love, love Urmila's outfit!! The sequins dhoti pants just rocks!! And it is beautifully complimented by the gently shading top. The outfit is in perfect proportion to her body. Never knew Urmila had this outfit in her.
Surily wore a pale white batwing dress and paired it with peach colored accessories. I find this shade of white to be very chic and polished and in general have a weakness for one-shoulder dresses.

Who: Shilpa Shetty
Where: Olay Total Effects event

A decent look from Shilpa after a lo-o-ng time. Looks like her stylist is back from Christmas break:P The draping and soft colors give the outfit a very feminine look which goes well with Shilpa's girly image. Thankfully, she did not accessorize.

Who: Prachi Desai
Where:Gitanjali store opening, Filmfare party

Prachi's outfits of the day are very evocative. The first one reminds me of sea-lion and the second one looks like something that used to hang over the couch at my grandmother’s house. In fact, I am going to call my granny to make sure its still there:P

Who: Anushka Sharma, Shraddha Kapoor

Both the outfits made my day. Anushka does spoil it a little by her choice of accessories. Shraddha is a picture of prettiness.

Who: Sameera Reddy, Raveena Tandon
Where: Filmfare party

Animal prints gone wrong. Sameera wore a leopard print with velvet(??) pants whereas Raveena did a tiger print with satin pants. On second thoughts, Sameera is not that bad - she looks very pulled together and the red lips help. On the other hand, Raveena is beyond fashion redemption.

Weekend Round - The beautiful and the bewildering

Who: Sonam Kapoor
Where: Manish Malhotra Chivas show

Pirates of the Caribbean or woman whose shoes we could live in?
Wow, she has big feet, and the shoes make the problem worse!
The whole look has a deja-vu feeling since Sonam tends to wear a lot of these high-waisted pants and did I mention I could live in her shoes with my 6 kids, 3 dogs and 1 cat and still have room to spare!!

Who: Sameera Reddy, Urmila Matondakar

Love both the dresses - have a very boho-chic vibe.
A big kick in the ass to Sameera for wearing such ugly shoes - what did her feet do to deserve this!!
Urmila would have fared better with a longer hemline.

Who: Kareena Kapoor, Chitrangada Singh
Where: Book launch, "Yeh Jo hai Zindagi" promos

Both, Kareena and Chitrangada, did the blazer and jeans combo. Kareena went for a semi-formal look pairing her jeans and graffiti t-shirt with a tuxedo blazer. She also went for a black/brown combination which always gets my attention.
Chitrangada went for a causal look with corduroy jacket and some killer heels and hair. Both look good.

Who:Lara Dutta
Where: At an engagement party

Wow, that saree is so striking and Lara does it full justice. She looks stunning!

Who: Bipasha Basu
Where: Maxim cover launch

If Bipasha has paid more than $29.99 for that dress she is wearing, she got ripped off. That dress is done in by its hemline - its really ugly. And the yuck shoes. Double Fail!!

Who: Neha Dhupia

I like the color combination and the belt ties the whole look together. I am a little iffy on the width of the pant - maybe a tighter fit at the thighs and then gently flaring?!?

Who: Celina Jaitely, Shazahn Padamsee

Celina - The dress is OTT but its a fashion show so I will let it pass.

Shazahn - I would rather die than wear this in public!!
Is she dressed "in character"? I cant seem to think of any other explanation for this atrocious dress she inflicted on us!

Weekend Roundup

Who: Vidya Balan, Urmila Matondkar
Where: At a wedding reception

Red alert!! Vidya and Urmila razzled and dazzled at a recent wedding. Rani wore a reddish-pink saree whereas Urmila went all out in red-n-gold anarkali (Manish Malhotra??). What's ur wedding style - simple like Vidya or OTT like Urmila becoz its a wedding after all?

Jeans love!! Seriously, jeans are so versatile. You can dress them up with a formal shirt and a nice bag or go for a laid-back look in ripped jeans and simple t-shirt. My favorite is wearing it with nautical stripes and then adding some color with a bag or scarf.

Who: Chitrangada Singh
Where: "Yeh Zindagi sali" film promos

Girl Crush!! Chitrangada is just perfect in every way in this monochromatic outfit and "I WANT THOSE" shoes. This woman looks good in anything! She complete the look with nude makeup and flowy hair.

Not very sure about this one. What do you guys think? Yikes or Yowza??

Looks of the day

Who: Malaika Arora Khan
Where: Sahara Star New York party announcement

Malaika did the mini + blazer combo pairing a gold BCBG(??) dress with a black blazer and nude Loubs. Two things (i) Having never looked beyond her always-on-display-legs, I didn't realize she is quite pretty (ii) not sure I like black with this shade of gold..Shoes, I will take anyday.

Urmila wore a cute, printed one-shoulder dress to the store opening. Love the dress and the shoes make the orange in the dress pop out. Orange clutch - an overkill..
Looks like her hair stylist had a day off.

Who: Raveena Tandon, Tisca Chopra, Gul Panang

Raveena - So many things messed up here. The waistband is too wide of her size, the dress too long and the shoes just plain wrong. BV clutch - always right.

Tisca - Love her Tod's Bauletto satchel and her perfectly polished look.

Gul - Too blinded by her red shoes to look at anything else..

Who: Mugdha Godse
Where: Herbalife launch

Ooh la la, That is a great look on Mugdha! She is uber-fancy in a cream gown with sheer overlay skirt. The gold embellishment at the neck is a nice touch and I love the way the skirt flows. You like?

Jacqueline - Lets just admire her shoes and move on..I mean, seriously how high has she worn her shorts? The look - Baboon or Buffoon ?

Mandira - Cant think of one nice thing to say:P
Wait a sec, Isnt the hand the symbol of one on the major political party (Congress-I)?? If I were the leader of that party, I would be really worried..

Who: Sushmita Sen

Sushmita keeps it simple in a white frilly top and skinny jeans at a store opening. The top isnt winning any points from me but she makes the whole thing work.

Who: Sonali Bendre
Where: Oral B promotions

Another white top and skinny jeans combination. Sonali looks gorgeous and stylish and by pairing a slim fitting top with her jeans, really plays up her slim silhouette. The only sore point is the plastic, tacky beads..

Who: Prachi Desai

Looks like someone has a new stylist:-) Either that or someone has done an intervention becoz Prachi has stopped wearing her plain-Jane terribly bor-r-ring dresses. Next on Prachi's to-do list, a new hair stylist!!

Who: Shahzahn Padamsee
Where: First look at "Dil to baccha hai"

Love, love the color and jeweled neckline. Shahzahn styled her her lovely asymmetrical dress with gold accessories. She looks cute and fresh.

Who: Urmila Matondakar
Where: At a wedding

Urmila wore a really loong anarkali to a wedding recently. The color is nice and the velvet at the hemline gives it a luxe look. I would have preferred this without the ugly sleeves...

Celebs at Aamby Valley Bridal week

Who: Sridevi

Sridevi wore a nude-colored bodycon dress to the event. She paired the dress with soft pink clutch and shoes. I really think she needs to quit wearing short dresses since they don't really work in her favor...

Who: Amrita Arora

Its really funny to catch celebs in same pose - they sure do practice in front of mirrors!!
None of her outfits work for me..

Who: Bhagyashree

Bhagyashree stuck to ethnic wear and wore sari and salvaar-suit to the bridal week. Love the blue color and the silver accessories. The sari could have worked with a better clutch and less bling-y necklace..

Urmila, Guest, Pria Kataria Puri

Urmila in a black/gold combination. The draping is terrible and the dress makes her shoulders look bulky.

I love how the guest wore black with brown and then added color with a red clutch.

Pria in her own design. The digital print is difficult to make out but is the actual image of jewellery that the late Maharani Gayatri Devi wore..

Aamby Valley India bridal week - Celebs on ramp

Celebs at HDIL couture week 2010 - Day two

Who: Gauri Khan

Gauri is a true philanthropist - she has decided to help us all out by applying the Gulf oil spill on her face!!

We need to do her a favor in return - wrestle the spray tan bottle out her hand!!

She is a good example of money cant buy style. Don't even get me started on her pantyhose and orange shoes!!

Who: Rani Mukherjee

Dayum, Rani is stunning, leggy hotness- though it looks like her girls are getting a little squished!! Its nice to see her in something other than the drab/boring jumpsuits.

Who: Kareena Kapoor

I have never met a sequin I didn't like:-) Kareena dazzles in a shimmery silver dress that she paired with silver clutch and black shoes. The smoky eyes and hairstyle add to the killer party look.

Both, Sonam and Suzanne, wore Herve Leger bandage dresses.

Sonam's dress is vintage Leger. The dress could have worked minus the sleeves- right now it looks very severe and boring and somehow her hairstyle reminds me of sumo wrestlers...

I know a lot of you find Suzanne very "harsh" but she totally rocks the silver Leger here.

All three of them look fabulous in their outfits. Its very tough to decide which one is best since they all got it right.

After a misstep yesterday, Urmila is back in form in a golden sequins dress and in a hairstyle that has not changed since the last 20 years..

Queenie nails it in a sparkly mindress. Clean, simple minimalism at its best.

Is big hair back in fashion? Natasha is third person, after Aish (Manish Malhotra show) and Kareena, to support this hairstyle.

Ok, so no one liked Rekha's dress yesterday:-) Neck up, she is a hot mess but I love the color and draping and ruffles of this dress..Am I the only one?
